From traditional genetics towards genomics: a new approach for an old problem

A new programme developed for breeding of coffee (Coffea arabica) using genomic applications is presented. The objectives of this study are: to define new tools for sustainable breeding; to improve coffee quality in 2 steps and to locate, identify and regulate the genes involved in improving quality; and the cryopreservation of genetic resources.
