Sistemas de producción bovina en la Zona Atlántica de Costa Rica con énfasis en los cantones de Pococí y Guácimo

The livestock activity is an important source of foreign currency in the country. In agricultural products it account for the third place after banana and coffee. In the Atlantic Zone livestock production is a common component of farming. The number of heads in the region accounts for 12 per cent of the total in the country. The main types of cattle farming in the Atlantic Zone are meat production, milk production and double purpose breeding. This study describes the livestock activity in the cantons of Pococi and Guacimo and is based on field surveys and literature studies realized in a number of CATIE and other projects.
