The effect of pollinator parent on the pod value of hand pollinated pods of Theobroma cacao L.

Pod value of hand pollinated pods from 26 crosses involving five female parents and open pollinated Amelonado (control) are presented. Attemps were made to assess the possible effect of pollinator parent on number of beans per pod, mean peeled dry bean weight, absolute pod value and percentage seedcoat. The environmental effect on pod values was reduced as much as possible by taking, exclusively, the pods maturing between October and November main crop season
