Agricultural sector assessment for project identification

The study refers to the main characteristics and evolution of the economy of San Vincent and the Grenadines, in agriculture, manufacturing and tourism, balance of trade, monetary indices, population and labour force, operation and financing of the public sector and the national development strategy. Continuously, the study mades reference to the agricultural sector, environment, roads and infraestructure, farm size and land fragmentation, credit and institutional structure. Then, production, food crops, vegetables, fruit tree crops, livestock and marketing and agroprocessing. Finally, it refers to a proposed action plan, a summary of main constraints and potential for agricultural development, goals and recommendations with the programmes: 1) Support to the reorganization of the Ministry of Agriculture, 2) Export crop development, 3) Livestock development, 4) Integrated development of the land settlement scheme, 5) Soil and water management and conservation for agriculture, and 6) Marketing and agro-processing of small farmers produce.
