Composición de la dieta de la codorniz Moctezuma (Cyrtonix montezumae) en el noroeste del Estado de México
COMPOSITION OF THE MONTEZUMA QUAIL'S DIET WAS STUDIED IN NORTHWEST STATE OF MEXICO. NINE ESOPHAGEAL CONTENTS WERE COLLECTED DURING THE WINTER HUNTING SEASON 2001-2002. MACROHISTOLOGICAL ANALYSES INDICATE THAT THE MAIN FOOD ITEM WAS OXALIS SPP. BULB (41.99% OF DRY MATTER), FOLLOWED BY WHEAT GRAIN (40.97%), CHENOPODIUM SP. SEEDS (16.46%), OAT SEEDS (0.54%) AND INSECTS (0.015%). NUTRIENT CONCENTRATION ESTIMATED WAS 15.30% CRUDE PROTEIN, 0.19% CA, 0.32% P AND 3.169 KCAL OF METABOLIZABLE ENERGY PER G OF DRY MATTER. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT OXALIS BULBS AND WHEAT GRAIN ARE THE MAIN ENERGETIC FOOD ITEMS DURING THE WINTER.
