Study of the genetic structure of a Uruguayan Hereford sample using blood groups

A sample of 50 Hereford from 4 different places of our country has been studied to know the population genetic structure. Eight blood group systems (A, B, C, F, J, L, S, Z)was typed and 7 genic frequencies were calculated. To determine the degree of genetic variability into the population, homocigosity index (H.I.) and inbreeding coefficient (f) were calculated. The alleles frequencies of 5 systems were A2(0.58), F(0.87), J(0.11), L(0.47),Z(0.512). The frequencies of the 4 alelles found in 8 systems were: s(O.65),H'(0.24), SH'(O.12), U'(0.02). For the B system, 14 phenogroups were detached. The Y2DT, A', QQ'were the most frequent and they were found in USA and Argentine's Hereford registred. Systems A, B, F, J, S, Z and different alleles distributions of the L and B systems realized to be similar to other countries. The H.I. mean values of 7 systems presented a medium value of 0.53, while the H.I. of the B system was high (O.1568). The f of the F system resulted to be shightly positive (O.026). This data and the high H.I. of B system would be indicate the existence of certain degree of inbreeding in this sample population. An increase of Hereford sample studied could confirm these results.
