Record of the flea Hectopsylla pulex (Haller, 1880) (Siphonaptera: Tungidae) on the common mastiff bat Molossus molossus (Pallas, 1766) (Chiroptera: Molossidae) in the department of Cauca, Colombia

The chiggerflea Hectopsylla pulex is a siphonapteran whose females are strict bats parasites. In Colombia, H. pulex has been documented in five departments of the Andean Region, however, there still are some information gaps within. We present the first record of H. pulex for the Andean Region of the Department of Cauca from recent observations made in urban areas. The chiggerflea was observed parasitizing a Pallas's mastiff bat Molossus molossus, which has been confirmed previously as one of its hosts. Finally, we discuss if the type of refuge inhabited by this and other bat species contribute to the dispersal of H. pulex, although additional data is required.
