Preliminary list of amphibians in the Munchique National Natural Park and areas of influence, Department Cauca - Colombia

The Munchique National Natural Park (NNP) is located in the Southern part of the Western Cordillera of Colombia. Research carried out during the past 90 years within the park, and surrounding areas, showed Munchique NNP is one of the richest places in amphibian species and amphibian endemism in the country. The aim of this study is to present a list of amphibians in 15 localities of Munchique NNP and its surroundings, which contributes to conservation strategies for the amphibian fauna of the protected area and its buffer zone. The list was prepared based on a survey of the literature, databases of scientific collections, along with collections, observations, and photographic records obtained by the authors during expeditions carried out between 2015 and 2017. The list contains 75 species distributed in 25 genera and 10 families. Out of these species, 35 are endemic to Colombia, 11 are endemic to the park and 21 have category in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List. This provides an useful tool to consolidate information about amphibians present in the protected area and design an Amphibian Monitoring Plan for NNP Munchique.
