Citologyc studies in Piper tucumanum C. DC. and Piper hieronymi C. DC.

Estudios Citológicos en Piper tucumanum C. DC. y Piper hieronymi C. DC. Andrada A. R., M. E. Lozzia y M. E. Cristóbal. Lilloa 46. 2009. The genus Piper is the largest one in the Piperaceae family whith pantropical distribution. In Argentina it is represented by 10 species. In this paper them are studied cytogenetically and valued the pollen viability of P. hieronymi (2n = 26, n = 13) and P. tucumanum (n = 26), a polyploid from NW of Argentina. Both of them show chromosomal irregularities in meiosis and moderate levels of pollen viability. The probable origin of the number n = 13 as a secondary polyploid between two species with x = 7 y x = 6 is discussed.
