A survey method for the analysis of consults received by veterinarians during the COVID-19 pandemic

Coronavirus type 2 is the agent that causes severeacute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) and produces thecoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has spread rapidly throughout the world. Human-animal interface monitoring showed that some species are susceptible to infection by the virus. However, during the first year of the pandemic, the species affected, clinical signs, and the role of animals in transmission of the disease were unknown. In this work, a survey with a structured questionnaire aimed at veterinarians in Argentina was developed. Ninety-five surveys were received. Results demonstrate the need for updated information available to veterinarians regarding SARS-CoV-2 infection in dogs and cats. Furthermore,we highlight the importance of considering SARS-CoV-2 adifferential diagnosis in animals that, while living with people who present compatible symptoms with COVID-19, have digestive and/or respiratory signs.
