Saltemaliquando etiam undulatim (At least sometimes it waves)

The terms diffraction and interference refer to exclusive properties of the wave nature of light. Such concepts were consolidated in the 19th century. In this paper, their developing is analyzed on historical basis, and special recognizing is given to Francesco María Grimaldi, JP, who coined the term diffractum in the 17th century.
