Interespecific hybrids of Lycopersicon spp and preliminares studies of genetic resistance to pinworns Scrobipalpula absoluta

This work was carried out in Palmira and Candelaria during 1990 to 1992 to evaluate the genetic resistance to pinworn, the genotypes used were: wild species: L. hirsuhl1n and L. pimpinellifolium; commercial varieties; L. esculentum cv. Santa Clara, L. esculentum cv Angela gigante and L. esculentum cv. Tropic. The trial to obtain  the experimental populations; (interspecific hybrids, back crossings and F2 populations) was done under field conditions, using the cultivated species as female parent. A resistance index was generated which integrated all variables in study. The results presented: a low effectivity of crossings in interspecific hybrids and back crossings with 9% and 5% respectively. Germination percentage of hybrid seed were around 25% and of back cross were 35%. Plants the present resistance to pinworn were found with a index value similar to wild species, for hirsutum (9) and pimpinellifolium (25). There is an association between the presence and the resistance express ion in the plants of crossing with L. hirsutum. However this did not appear in the cross with L. pimpinenllifolium.
