Dryophthorinae (Insecta: Coleoptera: Curculionidae) of Colombia: list of species, distribution, and associated plant taxa

Weevils of the subfamily Dryophthorinae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), commonly called 'palm weevils', are insects of economic importance in plantations of palms, Musaceae, pastures, food crops (annual and perennial), and stored grains. This paper presents the list of Dryophthorinae species from Colombia, with information on distribution by department and known association of each species with plant taxa. In Colombia, three tribes, 19 genera, and 87 species of Dryophthorinae are recorded, distributed in all departments, except Guainía, Vaupés, and Vichada. Of the total number of species, fourteen are recorded only for Colombia and 39 include at least one record of associated plants. This work constitutes the first step towards systematic reviews related to taxonomic, biological, and geographic aspects of the subfamily in Colombia.
