Overview of Land-based Pollutant Sources and Activities Affecting the Marine, Coastal, and Freshwater Environment in the Pacific Islands Regions. UNEP Regional Seas Reports and Studies No. 174.

This report provides a regional overview of the land-based pollutant sources and their impacts on the marine, coastal and freshwater resources of the South Pacific Region. This Overview is intended to provide the background for the Action Plan for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment in the Northwest Pacific Region. The Action Plan will be based primarily on the principles and guidelines that have existed since the Stockholm Conference, which have been endorsed by the UNEP Governing Council, and which have served the existing 11 Regional Seas Programmes well. However, these principles and guidelines are augmented somewhat and reinterpreted as a result of the UNCED declarations.
