Summary of the Stocktake of Existing Activities and Action Towards the Long-term Elimination of Discharges Into the Oceans to Reduce Marine Plastic Litter and Microplastics - Note by the Secretariat

This document provides a summary of the submissions to the stock-taking of existing activities and action (hereinafter referred to as “actions”) towards the long-term elimination of discharges into the oceans to reduce marine plastic litter and microplastics. The stock-taking exercise is aligned with a revised methodology to analyse the effectiveness of existing and potential response options and activities contributing towards long-term elimination of discharge of marine plastic litter and microplastics into the oceans, so as to determine the contribution they can make to solving this global problem. This work is mandated under UNEA resolution 4/6 subparagraph 7(d) and is further described in working document UNEP/AHEG/4/4. The results of the stock-taking describe the current focus of actions. They will also help define future desired action and response options.
