EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT HARVEST TIME RELATED TO THE CORN STUNT DISEASE IN THE CULTIVATION OF MAYZE. AZUERO, PANAMÁ, 1993-94.

It was accomplished an experiment in two localities in Azuero region (Las Tablas and Guarare) in the first harvest time (June of 1993), to observing the Corn Stunt disease assault. The experimental design was of split plots into a complete random blocks arrangement with three repetitions. The principal plots consisted of the different harvest times. These plots were planting each 15 days, beginning June 15 (Guarare) and July 1 (Las Tablas) to total seven and six planting dates, respectively. In the subplots were evaluated three genotypes P-8812, X-304 C and NB-12. In both localities was observed a very labeled effect of the disease according to the planting dates. The sowings accomplished before of August 15 were greater to those which percentage of plants affected by the pathogen (% plants with the symptom) and greater percentaje of affected ears presented. The greater percentage of stocky plants in Las Tablas and Guarare was given in the sowing of July 1 to 15 with 64.62 and 21.85%, respectively. Then this was reducing until reaching a value of 5.50 and 1.48% in the sowings of September 15, for Las Tablas and Guarare, respectively. All the genotype evaluated presented disease symptoms. In Las Tablas, where the disease incidence was high, the plants presented an average damage percentage of all the harvest time of 30.03% (P.8812), 23.40% (X-304 C) and 11.81% (NB-12). According to the counting of the population of Dalbulus maydis was found that this was highly virulent, since in spite of the decreases found populations, was observed a high percentaje of plants affected by the symptoms of the corn stunt disease.
