EVALUATION OF ALTERNATE ROWS CANAVALIA-CORN ASSOCIATION IN VALIDATION PLOTS, AZUERO, PANAMA, 1995-1996.

During the years 1995 and 1996, seventeen validation plots of alternate rows of Canavalia-Corn association were evaluated on collaborative farmers fields in Azuero. The evaluation consisted in the use of commercial fields of mechanized corn. In each plots was superposed the interesting treatment (alternate rows of Canavalia-Corn associate) in approximate an area of 0.25 to 0.50 ha. The Canavalia seed was sow in alternate rows when the corn had between 8 to 10 days after planting (dap). The “t” test was utilized for the analysis of Canavalia outcomes, grain yield and the yield componets of corn. The variables average by years and localities were calculated. The result of analysis proved highly significant differences in the grain yield potential between localities. The “t” test analysis found non-significant differences between alternate rows of Canavalia-Corn association plots with monocultures plots in grain yield and the main yield components of corn.
