Documentation of Harvesting Labor for a Successful Implementation of Optimum Harvesting Point in a Hybrid Oil Palm Cultivar in the Central Zone

Harvest at oil palm crops planted with OxG cultivars has been challenging for oil palm producers that switchedfrom E. guineensis crops to OxG crops. This is because the criterion used to harvest Elaeis guineensis bunches(count of loose fruits) is not applicable to OxG cultivars, in fact, each OxG crossing displays different featuresthat indicate that bunches are mature. In consequence, Cenipalma developed a line of research on adaptingthe BBCH phenological scale to oil palm bunches from different OxG crossings. A BBCH phenological scaledescribes the main features of the female inflorescence at each developmental stage from early stages to maturity. It has been found that a OxG bunch is mature at stage 807, indicating that at stage 807 one may extract thehighest possible amount of oil from a bunch at the best oil quality parameters. The goal of this research wasto implement at industrial level in Palmas y Extractora Monterrey S. A. the harvest criterion linked to bunchdevelopmental stages 807 and 809 in Coari x La Mé (OxG crossing). Results indicate that harvest accordingto the BBCH scale for Coari x La Mé doesn´t alter the figures on harvest labor productivity.
