Colombian Minimum Wage in the Context of the Oil Palm Sector

This article provides the reader with the necessary context to analyze the remunerations in the Colombian palm sector. To do this, it examines (i) the socioeconomic profile of the main palm oil producer countries; (ii) the Colombian labor market institutions regarding the minimum wage, as well as the benefits of social security and others for formal workers; and (iii) the Colombian labor market as well as income and expenses conditions. We found that the country has a strong institutional framework around the salaries and benefits for workers. Likewise, it is detected that working in the oil palm sector has a better position and condition relative to the average of workers in the rural sector.
