SE 10. Evaluation of calf rearing system at Morroco-Matejey microregion, Torres county, Lara state

The micro-region is clasified as tropical dry forest, with 1000 mm of mean annual rainfal. It has three sectors: 1. Matejey-La Pequeñita (flat land); 2. El Delirio (moderately accidental topography); 3. Los Rosales (completly accidental topography). The principal agricultural activity is the dual purpose cattle system. In this work, toraxic diameter measurement was taken to all calves present at two farm of each sector involved. ANOVA was applied taken liveweight at different ages as a highly dependent variable of topography condition and manegement. The calves liveweight average showed significant differences between sectors at 4 to 6 and up to 6 months of age. At sector 1, the calves mean liveweight under 6 mo of age was higher (P<.01) than other two sectors with worth topographic conditions, it showed values of 115.5; 89,4 and 65.2 kg in sector 1, 2, 3, respectively. The calves mean liveweight up to 6 months of age showed different (P<.01) between sector, with values of 145.7; 141.8 and 66.3 kg in sector 1, 2, 3, respectively. There was not significant differences between sectors on calves live weight from 0 to 3 months of age.
