Situación actual y perspectivas de la ganadería de bovinos criollos en América Latina: Situación actual y perspectivas de los bovinos criollos

This article outlines the current status and prospects of bovine cattle ranching based on Creole specimens in the different countries of Latin America. The study involved a targeted electronic search and a poll for the snowball method. Key findings report the ignorance of the inventory of Creole cattle in most countries, as well as advances in promoting the crossbreeding of Creole races with foreign breeds, which promote associations of Creole cattle breeders that exist on the continent. It also highlights the recent scientific contributions that, with the help of genomic tools and reproductive biotechnology, contribute to the positioning of Creole races as primary elements for the resilience and sustainability of livestock activity, this in the face of various alterations in the environment. It is concluded that it is a priority to generate formal technical-economic information of the herds, as well as to improve the nutritional status of livestock and emphasize efforts in the promotion of Creole races at the local, regional, national and continental levels with the integration of academic, research, trade union and government
