NR 23. Effect of two prepartum feeding systems on pre and postpartum blood metabolites during the metabolic transition of Holstein cows into lactation

In a randomized block design, 30 dry Holstein cows during the last week of gestation were assigned to diets of low (A) and high (B) energy to study the effects of the lead feeding concept prepartum on the metabolic transition of dairy cow into lactation. Blood serum analysis of minerals, various blood metabolites, as well as blood cell constituents and blood gases, showed no particular trend for either prepartum treatment and no carry-over effect into early lactation.
