Summary of the work of thematic cartography carried out by ORSTOM in Africa between 1963 and 1966. ORSTQM has gone ahead with its cartographical jobs, which give it the most eloquent and the most accessible expression. By that time, ORSTOM had produced 430 thematic maps in the African and Madagascar fields alone since 1945. The figure has now reached 533, that is to say that 103 have been published in three years, and all of them are the fruit of the labours of research workers, with whom the cartographers have closely collaborated. The problems posed by research-workers for the cartography of their labours have often led to big technical advances.
