Una aplicación del coque siderúrgico: ladrillos refractarios de carbono

[EN] Carbon has a lot of properties that make it to be considered as the ideal refractory material for some applications. From many years the bricks and blocks of this material have been utilized in Germany for the sill and hearth revetment of blast furnaces, but there is still a certain reserve to utilize them for these uses in some other countries. Although less widened, another interesting aplication of these refractories is the revetment of some parts of the cupola for cast iron. In Spain, there would not be any difficulty to make refractories from carbon, and this, neither for the industrial procedure itself nor for the raw materials required. These raw materials, particularly coke, are described and some details about the manufacture. of those refractories are also given. The properties and characteristcs of the finished product are studied and some indications on the employ, specially as a revetIl!-ent for blast furnaces, in cupoias and in baths to obtain aluminium - through melted alumina electrolysis -, are given in the paper.
