Numerical Taxonomy of the Genera Rotylenchus Filipjev, 1936 and Orientylus Jairajpuri & Siddiqi, 1977 (Nematoda: Tylenchida)

The phenctical relationships of the species of Rotylenchus Filipjev, 1936 and Orientylus Jairajpuri & Siddiqi, 1977 (Nematoda: Tylenchida) have been studied by different numerical taxonomic methods. Data from 59 different populations of 43 species included in both genera have been compiled from the literature. In the numerical analyses 28 quantitative characters have been included after calculating the median of every one for each population. These characters have been divided into two groups: 14 permanent and 14 not permanent, the latter divided in their turn into seven compound and seven single values, so that all the analyses have been performed in two series: first including permanent characters plus compound values and second with the same permanent characters plus single values, with similar results in both cases. The phenetic relationships among the species were analyzed by comparing the findings of different authors with ours, when it became evident that there is general agreement. Finally, it is observed that the numerical methods employed make it easier to identify species in the group studied.
