Simple digital imaging for weed cover studies

A simple but realistic model to construct 2D view of seedling cover within a crop is presented.Leaves are constructed from outlines of real leaves; then each seedling is made of several leaves depending of development stage knowledge on relative arrangement of leaves (phyllotaxis). First application of this work is validation of digital image processing software for site-specific weed control. All sizeand shape parameters are subject to controlled variation for better rendering and to quantify consequences of phenotypic variation of indivdual at community level. Output of the model is total and illuminated percent cover of each species in the mixture. When cover is split over its different components, potential competitive relations can be devised. A simple example is presented.
