CIMMYT 1990 Annual Report: sustaining agricultural resources in developing countries: contributions of CIMMYT research

In this century, agricultural productivity in many developing contries increased dramatically, spurring economic growth and improving the well-being of hundreds of millions of the world's poor. As the next millennium approaches, one of humankind's greatest challenges is to maintain and improve upon those gains so as to meer growing needs while sustaining Nature's endowment. CIMMYT concentrates on increasing the productivity of the resources committed to agriculture, with the aim of opening new options for the poor, and on sustaining natural resources, especially those in agriculture. Innovative research is required to meet both the needs of the poor and those of the environment. Our 1990 Annual Report reviews the progress begin made in some of our work, emphasizing that part of our portafolio most related to sustaining natural resources.
