New 'Agrodok' on field surveying

CTA has financed the translation into English of another in the low-cost series of Agrodok booklets produced by Agromisa in The Netherlands. Field surveying for land and water management gives basic information on how to measure fields and stake out construction works using simple surveying methods. These methods can be applied when carrying out small-scale works that can be implemented, managed and maintained by farmers themselves: for example, digging a canal, constructing a terrace, or levelling a field. The first and largest part of the book introduces technical terms and methods in surveying and discusses the possibilities and limitations of each so that the most suitable method can be selected. Later the main principles of field-surveying are demonstrated using three examples of construction works. Although field-workers find themselves having to work in both land and water management, this booklet is unusual in that it links the two. Agrodok books are distributed free to nationals of ACP countries: for details write to CTA.
