A catalogue of training and extension materials on Integrated Pest Management
A growing awareness of the many undesirable side-effects of chemical pesticides led to the formulation of the concept of Integrated Pest Management, defined by FAO in 1967 as 'a pest management system that, in the context of the associated environment and the population dynamics of the pest species, utilizes all suitable techniques and methods in as compatible a manner as possible and maintains the pest population at levels below those causing economic injury.. Over the years, much research has been done in this direction, and many scientists have published their findings.Worldwide training and extension material for IPM, or related aspects, subsequently became available. To this end, CTA and the Department of Entomology at Wageningen Agricultural University have co-published 'Integrated Pest Management: a catalogue of training and extension materials'; compiled by F A N van Alebeek. With a foreword by CTA's Director, Mr Daniel Assoumou Mba, the catalogue covers a wide range of materials including handbooks, field manuals, pocket guides, brochures, slide sets, posters and instruction cards, films and videos, tape recordinns and other materials. A worldwide directory of research institutes and information centres is also provided 'Integrated Pest Management; a catalogue of training and extension materials for projects in tropical and subtropical regions' by FAN van Alebeek, 1989, 305 pages, available from CTA.
