Identificación de especies y biotipos de Brucella aisladas en Costa Rica

This is the first report of the presence and identification of BruceIla in Costa Rica. BruceIla abortus was isolated from eight bovine aborted fetus and from the blood of one human case. All the bovine isolates belonged to B. abortus biotype 1 BruceIla sus biotype 1 was isolated from one case of a suine aborted fetus. An unknown variant of smooth Brucella was isolated from the testis of an infected dog. The importance of these findings is discussed in relation to the animal and human brucellosis in the region.
