Uso de recursos alimentares por peixes imaturos e adultos de espécies piscívoras em uma planície de inundação neotropical.

This study aimed to evaluate the use of food resources by immature individuals and adult Acestrorhynchus lacustris, Hemisorubim platyrhynchos, Hoplias aff malabaricus, squamosissimus Plagioscion, corruscans Pseudoplatystoma and Salminus brasiliensis, of the upper Paraná River floodplain, collected quarterly from March 2007 and December 2008. We evaluated the quantitative composition of the diet by obtaining the volume of prey (% volume) and trophic niche breadth of each species and trophic interrelationships between them through niche overlap , similarity between diets and size of prey. The diet of the six species was composed by prey-fish (42 species), crustaceans and insects, all of which, except for P. corruscans showed ontogenetic changes. The niche breadth was higher for H. aff. malabaricus adults and less for adults corruscans P. and P. immature squamosissimus. The overlap values were mostly lower, with null values for P. corruscans in relation to other species and high intra-specific value in relation to the immature and adult. The similarity in the diet was higher for those who consumed Characidae and lower for P. immature squamosissimus which consumed preferably crustaceans. There was a positive correlation between the size of the prey and predator, but each species consumed prey of different sizes, showing that they are uncorrelated. The results showed that all six species consume fish from immature stages but little similarity and overlap in intra- and interspecific diet for most of them, and that the size of prey consumed increased compared to the predator's size and was variable among the species . Thus, the diet of predators depends on the distribution and colonization of-prey in the environment, morphology and feeding behavior of both prey as predators.
