Distribución de coliformes fecales en el área marina de la costa ecuatoriana en las Provincias de Esmeraldas y Manabí, 2008-2013

Here, we describe an evaluation of fecal coliform bacteria contamination state in the ecuadorian river side area in the Provinces of Esmeraldas and Manabí, between march and may from 2008 to 2013, from an n=109 data samples. From the results, it is pretty obvious the bacteria contamination in very specific places such as Esmeraldas's river mouth, Chone's river estuary and the opposite side of the main population from the studied areas such as Esmeraldas, La Chorrera in Perdenales, Bahía de Caráquez, Jaramijó and Manta. It provides an evaluation based on the maximum limit allowed of 200 NMP/100 ml for estuarine and sea waters as it's described on the chapter VI annex 1 of Texto Unificado de la Legislación Secundaria del Ministerio del Ambiente (TULSMA), as a result the 65% of the stations far away from the offshore don't show bacterial contamination, been considered healthy environments, and the 35% located in close proximity from population show from moderate to severe contamination.
