History and present-day status of astacological studies conducted in AzNIIRKH

Long-term astacological research in AzNIIRKH has been carried out with the purpose of studying the state of natural crayfish populations and their habitat in the waterbodies of the Azov Sea Basin, assessing crayfish stocks, working out total allowable catch amounts and recommendations for the conservation, replenishment and rational use of stocks. It is a retrospective study of the biology and ecology of crayfish populations, the dynamics of their quantitative and qualitative characteristics, and the development of artificial reproduction biotechnologies. The current status of astacological research in AzNIIRKH is characterized.
