Estimación de los parámetros de crecimiento de Sympterygia bonapartii (Rajidae).

The aim of this study was to determine the growth parameters of Sympterygia bonapartii using the reading of growth rings on vertebrae of fish caught in the area comprised between 34° S and 41° S, from the coastline to 50 m depth. To estimate age and growth, vertebrae reading of 304 males 20-72.9 cm total length (TL) and 248 females 20-78 cm TL was used. The growth curves were fitted to length-at-age data using the traditional models of three von Bertalanffy and Gompertz parameters and their variants to the size of the specimen at birth (L0). The estimated parameters were Loo = 79.8 cm TL, k = 0.146 year-1 and Lo = 11.8 cm TL for males and Loo = 92.6 cm TL, k = 0.122 year-1 and Lo = 8.82 cm for females. Longevity was calculated at 19 and 24 years for males and females, respectively, and the age at first maturity at about 9 years for both sexes. Said parameters, that contribute to a better understanding of the species biology, can be used in future assessments of the population abundance.
