Enchimento do reservatório de Santa Clara, rio Jordão (Pr), bacia hidrográfica do rio Iguaçu : efeitos sobre a comunidade fitoplanctônica.

Regarding the scarcity of information about the limnological changes occurring during the filling of reservoirs, the present study aimed to (i) increase the knowledge about the changes in the structure and dynamic of phytoplankton community and (ii) investigate the relationships with the zooplankton community during the filling of Santa Clara Reservoir, Jordão River. For this, samples were taken with short time interval during the reservoir filling in the region near the dam and at a lateral compartment formed in the mouth of the Caracu River. We evaluated the species composition, density and biovolume from phytoplankton community and the classification of the identified species into functional groups. In order to examine the possible influence of the grazing on the phytoplankton dynamic during the period, we analyzed the relationships between this community and the species composition and density of zooplankton community. A Principal Component Analysis was applied to summarize the variables and identify the environmental variables that more influenced the structure and dynamic of phytoplankton community. To identify patterns of spatial and temporal variation of the phytoplanktonic functional groups, we employed a Detrended Correspondence Analysis to the data of algae density, whereas to quantify the relative influence of physical and chemical variables and zooplankton community on the dynamic of phytoplankton community, we used the inertia partialling method (Partial CCA). This study was elaborated in two chapters; the first entitled "Effects of the filling of a subtropical reservoir (Paraná State, Brazil) on phytoplankton composition, density and biomass" evidenced deep changes in the structure and dynamic of phytoplankton community starting from the decrease in the current flow of the Jordão River. In the second chapter, entitled "Phytoplankton - Zooplankton relationship during the filling phase of a Brazilian subtropical reservoir", we registered that the zooplankton influenced more strongly the phytoplankton community at the end of the filling and was responsible for 14% of the variation in phytoplankton density, while the abiotic variables did not influence this community. The effect of the interaction between the abiotic variables and zooplankton community represented 84.27% of the phytoplanktonic variation, which is coherent to the fact that both abiotic and biotic variables have suffered the same disturbance: the drastic hydrological change resulting from the damming of the Jordão River.
