O sistema agroflorestal sustentável utilizado pelos produtores da terra firme ao longo dos rios Negro e Solimões (Amazonas).
Foram estudadas 101 propriedades agrícolas de terra firme localizadas na calha dos rios Negro e Solimões (Amazonas). A agricultura praticada nesta região é tipicamente de subsistência. A área plantada é caracterizada por lotes com média de 1 ha onde se cultiva espécies alimentares. A terra é cultivada por dois a três anos e em seguida é "abandonada" entre quatro e oito anos em pousio, caracterizando-se uma agricultura itinerante. Ao redor da casa do produtor encontra-se uma diversidade de fruteiras, espécies comestíveis e medicinais à qual dá-se o nome de miscelânia. O sistema agroflorestal utilizado pelo produtor parece viável para as condições locais. Os produtores utilizam os recursos locais e preservam recursos genéticos da floresta dentro de uma lógica sustentável. A quantitaty of 101 small farms located on "terra firme" along Negro and Solimões rivers (Amazonas) were studied. The areas agriculture praticed in this region is typically of subsistence. The cultivated are a is caracterized by plots with an average size of I ha on which food species are planted. The land is cultivated for two to three following years, after that it is abandoned for four to eight years, caracterizing shifting cultivation. Around the farmer's house is found a diversity of fruit, food and medicinal species, called homegardens. The agroforestry system used by farmers is viable for the local conditions. The farmers make only use of local inputs and preserve the genetic resources of the forest in a sustainable way.
