Progresso genético para características reprodutivas em bovinos da raça Nelore.

Abstract: The aim of this study was estimate the genetic progress for reproductive traits in a Nellore cattle herd. Accumulated productivity (PAC), stayability (STAY), age at first calving (IPP) and probability of precocious pregnancy (3P) were analyzed. The data set is from Júlio Bernardes Agropecuária, a cattle ranch that participates in the Brazilian National Association of Breeders and Researchers (ANCP). For the calculation of the genetic trends, were used the direct breeding values of each individual obtained in single trait analyses carried out using bivariate linear mixed model with BLUPF90. The animal breeding values were grouped by year of birth to calculate the means annual genetic values, being those weighted by the number of observation, for the period from 2007 to 2016. The genetic trends were -10 months/year for IPP, 6% for 3P, 7% for PAC and 6% for STAY. The genetic progresses obtained were satisfactory, which proves the feasibility of use of these traits like selection criteria to improve the reproductive efficiency in the herd.
