Current status of Malaysian crude palm kernel oil characteristics.

A one-year crude palm kernel oil survey was conducted from May 1998 to april 1999 to monitor the oil's characteristics. Nineteen kernel crushers from all over Malaysia participated in the survey. The mean composition of the major fatty acids was as follows: lauric acid, 47.9 por ciento ; myristic acid, 16.7 por ciento ; palmitic acid, 8.5 por ciento and oleic acid, 14.9 por ciento . The mean moisture and impurities content, free fatty acid content, iodine value (Wijis) and colour were 0.127 por ciento , 2.01 por ciento as lauric acid, 17.7 and 6.1 Red 60.4 Yellow respectively. These values indicate that the analysed crude palm kernel oil samples were within the Malaysian Edible Oil Manufacturer's Association Domestic Contract and Specification requirement.
