Rubberwood from agricultural plantations : a market analysis for Peninsular Malaysia.

Rubberwood (Hevea brasiliensis) from agricultural plantations constitutes the major non-forest timber resource for Malaysia's wood-based industry. The development of market prices of rubberwood, and supply and demand patterns are investigated in this paper. Implications for the potential further development of the market are deduced. Key areas for future policies on the rubberwood sector are identified. In conclusion, technical and economic constraints of the concept 'rubber for timber' are discussed.
