Achieving Vision 35:25 through clonal planting.

Oil palm productivity increment has been discussed extensively in many forums. This paper deals specifically on how clonal palms can contribute towards achieving vision 35:25. Factors contributing to production of superior clones are discussed. Results of clonal planting has shown that materials producing 8.8 t/ha oil is currently available. Replanting policy must be reviewed to provide for better age profile of planting material in the country. Replanting with clones is already on-going although number of ramets produced by Malaysia cannot fulfilled the needs required. Incentive programme to be developed by MPOB is targeted at increasing the number of ramets produced. The programme is also expected to make the business of cloning oil palm attractive and profitable. This can then contribute towards reduction of price of ramet making it more accessible to smallholder planters. In order for clonal planting to make an impact, a concerted effort from the industry is needed.
