Fleas (Siphonaptera) of the Yucatan Peninsula (Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan), Mexico

The fleas (Insecta: Siphonaptera) of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico are poorly known. The scattered literature on the fleas of the Yucatan, (states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatan) is reviewed. New records from the region include Orchopeas howardi, Ptilopsylla dunni, Pulex simulans, Pulex alvarezi, and Xenopsylla cheopis. the bat flea, ptilopsylla dunni, is reported from Mexico for the first time. The new records bring the total number of fleas species known from the region to 15. Medical importance and zoogeographic affinities are addressed briefly.
