Rational and optimized chemical control of coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) :

Chemical control is still frequently practised against coffee leaf rust (H. vastatrix) in Latin America. Given the current difficult economic situation and market demand for environment-friendly products, there is now good reason to rationalize and optimize such control methods. In Latin America, control is primarily based on intervention thresholds, empirical knowledge of epidemic development and risk forecasting using mathematical formulae. The main drawback of such methods is generally the difficulty of transferring them from one site to another, or even from one plantation to another, and modelling is a tool that could be used to overcome this problem.
