Avaliacao técnica, economica e qualitativa do uso de queimadores de GLP na secagem de café

The present study was undertaken in th Pólo de Tecnologia em Pó-Colheita de Café (Technology Pole in Coffee Post-Harvest) at the Universidade Federal de Lavras, MG, and was intended to evaluate technique and economically different GLP burner operation during coffee drying, as the quality of the product is ended that the operation of the fire of the burner doesn't interfere in the quality of the dry product. It were used, simultaneously, two dryers contain 5,000 liters of cherry/green coffee with 33.11 percent w.b. of initial moisture content. In one of them, the flame's burner was maintained constant, and in the other, it was maintained intermittent. The drying performance was evaluated by the following measurements: initial and final moisture content, coffee mass temperature, dryer's exit air temperature, drying air temperature, relative humidity and temperature of the atmosphere, static pressure into the plenum, air velocity, total time of drying and total fuel consumption. The quality evaluation was performed by utilizing the following analyses: potassium leakage, electric conductivity, total titrable acidity and sensorial analysis. Such analyses were done in samples with and without the presence of defects. The number of defected and stained beans was determined in samples in original conditions. The economical evaluation was done by calculating the costs of labor, fuel, electric energy, fixed capital depreciation and total costs. When the flame's burner was maintained constant it result in the most drying efficiency and in the lower fuel and energy specific consumption. Besides, the total costs were 13,4 percent lower than the drying in which the flame was maintained intermittent. As the quality of the product is ended that the operation of the fire of the burner doesn`t interfere in the quality of the dry product.
