Interacacao fungos micorrízicos versus superfosfato e seus efeitos no crescimento e teores de nutrientes do cafeeiro em solo nao fumigado

The effects of the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (VAMF) Gigaspora margarita (Mar), Glomus clarum (Cla) and four isolates of Glomus etunicatum (Lav, Pat, Var and TP) on growth and nutrient content of Coffea arabica L. seedling were studied. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse of the Departamento de Ciéncia do Solo - Escola Superior de Agricultura de Lavras (ESAL), State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, using a non-fumigated low fertility field soil amended with increasing level (0 to 1600 ug P / g soil) of soluble P as triple superphosphate. The extractable soil P ranged from 1.5 to 588 ug P / g soil. Non-inoculated plants in the fumigated (Fum) and non fumigated soil (Ni) were used as control in this study. Plants from the Fum soil exhibit linear growth response with increasing soil extractable P, whereas mycorrhizal plants, including the Ni ones, showed either quadratic or square root responses to increasing soil P. Growth responses to P differed among plants colonized by the different VAMF in various period. Plants inoculated with the G. etunicatum isolates Mar, and Pat, exhibited, earlier response than those inoculated with other VAMF. At the end of the experiment (170 days after planting), mycorrhizal plants, including Ni ones, grew better than those without mycorrhizae (Fum). However VAMF growth promoting effects were related to soil P level. Growth effects were maximum at intermediate P levels. At high P, VAMF showed depressive growth effects. VAM colonization varied considerably among fungi and was reduced by high soil P. Possible relationships between growth effects of these fungi and their tolerance to high soil P are discussed.
