Studies on the effect of gibberellic acid on arabica coffee in India

The effects of soaking C. arabica seeds in gibberellic acid on germination and foliar sprays on growth rate and flower bud opening are reported. Treated seeds germinated 10 days earlier than controls. Growth rate was increased following treatment with high levels of gibberellic acid (75 and 100 ppm), but declined after two months. Foliar application resulted in greater leaf growth than soil application. Utilization of applied gibberellic acid was found to depend upon the light intensity received by the plants. Gibberellic acid was also responsible for uniform flower bud movement and greater flower opening. (ICO. Library Monthly Entries (no.107) p. 12. 1989)
