Variabilidade na produçao em progenies do cafeeiro Mundo Novo

Fifteen S1 progenies of Mundo Novo coffee were planted in Campinas, in 1944. Total yield for each plant was recorded during 37 consecutive years (1946-1982) in order to analyse yield capacity and logevity. Great variability for total yield was noticed among progenies and among plants of the same progeny. Higher yields were recorded for progenies CP 376, CP 386, CP 387 and CP 382 regardless the stand. The annual variation during 37 years of six high yielding plants shows the environment influence on yield. The number of dead plants increased considerably between the 23rd and 34th years. It attained 15 for the progeny CP 379, 55 for the progenies CP 388 and CP 381, and 60 for CP 382. Based on total yield and vegetative aspect a new selection cycle for yield capacity and longevity was started with progenies of the most promising coffee plants
