[Rapport] :

Five introduced robusta selections, two local selections and arabica coffee were planted at 3 x 3m in 1978. Temporary shade was provided by cassava and permanent shade by Gliricidia maculata. Rainfall was generally low and ranged from 1094 mm in 1977 to 2031 mm in 1980. The best selection (robusta Code E) yielded 1096 kg fresh berries/ha in the first year, increasing to 6359 kg in the third year. Data are presented on mulching and pruning. The major disease, leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) was controlled with Bayleton (tridimefon) at 1.6 kg/0.8 ha. Coffee yield generally increased with plant age. The effects of climate are discussed
