The use of leaf disk inoculation in assessing resistance to coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix) :

In assessing complete and/or major gene resistance results obtained by the method were similar to those of glasshouse test. For incomplete resistance more replications were needed and percentage of disks with sporulating lesions was the most suitable component of resistance. It was concluded that the leaf disk method, if adequately standardized, can be very useful in breeding for coffee leaf rust resistance and also in basic research on the host-pathogen relationship
