Control químico de la roya del café en Brasil :

The first field tests performed in Brazil to evaluate fungicides for coffee rust control and to establish timing, dosage and frequence of spraying were started in Minas Gerais State by the Universidade Federal de Viçosa in 1970. Coffee rust was effectively controlled by appropriate applications of copper based fungicides. However, some organic fungicides also showed promising results. Copper based fungicides with 50 metalic copper employed at the rates of 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 Kg/ha, applied at 4-weekly intervals from the beginning of the rainy season, in September, to March or April, were tested in three districts of Minas Gerais. Even at the rate of 2.0 Kg/ha at 4-weekly intervals the percentage of infected leaves was kept below 5. In other field trials, starting the 4-weekly interval spray programs in September, or even later, with copper fungicides, resulted in high levels of disease control when the applications were carried until the end of February or later. Some systemic fungicides although having good performances under greenhouse conditions gave poor control in field trials. Low volume spraying with copper formulations are giving promising results
