Preliminary studies on pathogenicity of Fusarium oxysporum on Arabica coffee plants as a possible cause of coffee root rot

The test fungus Fusarium oxysporum isolated from root infected specimens collected from one of the plantations in Giri areas of Chikmagalur coffee zone was inoculated on healthy 18 months old arabica coffee, variety S.795 plants, grown under nursery conditions. Positive infection in soil as well as root inoculated plants was observed between 25-28 days after inoculation. The severity was more in soil inoculated plants than in the root inoculated plants. The control (uninoculated) plants were healthy. The test fungus was reisolated from the root rot infected plants proving Koch's postulate
